In December 2003 Julia Canneaux, Amanda Fyles and Sophie Eastwood choreographed the schools’ first full length Ballet for children. Set to Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music with stunning costumes created by Amanda Fyles the story of ‘The Nutcracker’ was brought to life by dancers aged from 3 to 18. Leading parts were played by Kitty Horne (Clara), Jacob Awcock (Fritz), Lorna Geddie (The Nutcracker) Naomi Beard (Sugar Plum Fairy), Emma Cregan (Drosselmeyer) Chloe Goodyear (King Rat) and Katie Large (Snow Queen). Other pupils took the roles of the staff below stairs, party guests, mice and soldiers in Act I, Snowflakes and Icicles in the Kingdom of Snow, and in the Kingdom of Sweets – Barley sugars, violet creams, candyfloss and peppermint creams joined the Sugar Plum Fairy along with the Waltz of the flowers, Arabian dancers representing coffee, Russian dancers representing Peppermint, Chinese dancers representing Tea and Spanish dancers representing Chocolate. The atmosphere backstage, onstage and in the auditorium was electric and the production proved to be a delightful Christmas treat for all involved.
